What a long strange trip.....1962 -.'Wild Thing I' was built in Iowa by Skeeter Hydie and Joe Ferguson as a Gasser, then changed to an Altered when the rules were changed to a minimum wheelbase of 92 inches.  It was raced with a 426 Hemi and clutchflite from '65 to '69 when it was parked. It has a narrowed Pontiac rear end with a 5.38 gear and Summers Brothers axles.

Fast forward to 2001.  Glenn Hayes, with Federal Mogul, remembers this neat old car he used to see at the track in Iowa "Back in the day".  He gets in touch with Joe Ferguson and discovers the car is still in the machine shed.  A deal is struck and the car comes home.....to Weeki Wachee, FL.

After three years of this little gem taking up space in his shop Glenn decides to sell....To us.

Now the fun starts

We got our hot little hands on this car and decided to give it a new lease on life....with a Swamp Fox Twist

Introducing

Swamp Thing

The car is in the body shop as we speak.  Follow the link above to see the Photoshop version of our vision.

Now the work starts

We finally got around to stripping all four paint jobs and were happy to find that the body is relatively solid.

We have also started toying with different engine possibilities as well as chassis upgrades.  we have the engine choices narrowed down to a Buick 364 Nailhead with six two barrels, a Pontiac 400 with three two barrels or a Dodge 440 with a Tunnel Ram and two four barrels.  No matter which way we go, this baby is going to be a blast at the track.
