S-10R- It's a 1986 Chevy S-10 with a few.......modifications. The open Road Racing bug bit and we came up with a possible cure. People have been stuffing V-8's into S-10's for years, but the suspension has been mostly ignored with the exception of lowering kits. What we have done is to fit Impala spindles with 'Vette calipers and custom A-arms to the front with a Ford Nine inch with Camaro disc brakes located by NASCAR style control arms, coil springs and a panhard rod in the rear. The sides of the bed have been welded to the cab to form a one piece body. For safety (And to pass tech at the races in Ely, NV) a 12 point rollcage was added. Ewing Automotive Machine of Snellville, GA performed the machine and balance work on the engine. We started with a 400 block bored .030 over with a 3.25 crank(327 large journal), 6.25" H-beam rods and Hypereutectic pistons. We are currently running Edelbrock Performer RPM heads, cam, and intake. A Carter 750 sits on top for chassis evaluation but we will probably be switching to a BG Demon carb for the run in Nevada. Apologies for the lack of photographs. The truck is still in Georgia and Steve is in Florida recuperating from the crash in August,2001. Stay tuned. There should be suspension photos by the end of June. |
